‘Belse’ Erases Paulaner from the Bowery Ahead of New Vegan Brewery
A vegan brewery and restaurant is poised to open on the Bowery, taking the place of the failed, and since fallow, Paulaner Brauhaus.
Indeed, as previously reported, Dallas-based Belse is on board to take over 265-267 Bowery. The relative newcomer – which began life last February – will go even bigger with this larger Lower East Side location. It’ll serve not only “high-concept vegan,” as noted in a somewhat ambiguous prior job listing, but will also utilize the brewery component that remains a legacy at this address.
To that end, the storefront reign of its hoppy predecessor is all but erased with the fresh coat of blue paint. Teaser signage also announces its forthcoming arrival.
While based in the Lone Star State, the big-box vegan establishment actually has ties to Los Angeles, as its owners and operators are also behind the wildly successful Little Pine. (Its core founder, Moby, departed the restaurant in 2020.)
The franchised Paulaner brewery – the first and only stateside location for the company at the time – spent four years on the Bowery before going belly up in February 2018.
