How the Champions League Cup Ended up on the Lower East Side
For one day, the Champions League Cup held court on the Lower East Side.
Last week (December 8), the silver trophy was at The Ground on Madison Street as part of a larger event. At halftime during the match between Chelsea Football Club and Zenit Saint Petersburg, CBS was onsite to broadcast a live interview with former footballer Ashley Cole. The contest – which ended in a draw – was followed by a meetup onsite with Chelsea supporters.
As part of the media happening, the shiny trophy – known officially as the European Champion Clubs’ Cup – was also in attendance and cameoed in filmed segments for CBS.
The team also imparted a Chelsea FC mural on the rooftop pitch, sponsored by the team, which replaces the FIFA 2022 paint job previously on display.
