Seward Park Cheerleading Squad Raises $30K for Nationals Competition
When the Seward Park High School cheerleading squad qualified for the nationals back in December, the school made history. The Lower East Side institution is reportedly the second public high school in Manhattan to ever qualify for the grand stage.
However, the obstacle in their midst was budgetary. No cash for uniforms, travel, and lodging to participate in the Orlando competition.
Enter crowdfunding platform GoFundMe and a deep list of donors, many of whom count as alumni of the Lower East Side institution. Some sounded off graduation year and words of encouragement to accompany the donation.
The aggregate support helped propel the Seward Park team past its lofty fundraising goal, which now carries a balance of nearly $30,000.
