Murder Charge for Parolee Who Fatally Shot Pregnant Girlfriend
The Bronx man accused of fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend in the Vladeck Houses last fall now faces murder charges.
Dennis Applewhite allegedly shot 27-year-old Brittani Duffy, pregnant with his child, in the neck last November. Applewhite, a member of the Air it Out gang, then fled to New Jersey, where he was arrested hours later by the Bergen County Sheriffs office after a brief manhunt. Authorities said he carjacked an elderly motorist and crashed the stolen car, then resisted before the arrest.
He’s been in custody ever since, and was sent to Rikers Island without bail on Tuesday.
The victim was on life support for over a week before she died.
Applewhite previously served three years in prison in 2014 for conspiracy stemming from a firearms arrest in 2008, and was released on parole in 2017.
