It was a weekend bookended by Arcade Fire.
The band performed three surprise benefit shows Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at the Bowery Ballroom. Both were for the benefit of the Ukraine Relief Fund, but also notable as the first time Arcade Fire played the seminal Lower East Side venue since the 2004 release of Funeral.
After the Friday night performance, the group descended to the Bowery subway station just outside the venue for an acoustic performance.
The three shows also promote the forthcoming arrival of the latest long-player, We. It’s also worth noting that co-founding member, Will Butler, departed from the band on Saturday. Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner took his place, according to Brooklyn Vegan.
