It’s a new dawn on Delancey Street for sanitation.
Councilman Chris Marte today announces a new initiative – “A New Dawn on Delancey” – to help scrub the north side of this major artery. The spine of the Lower East Side. The city is contracting with ACE (Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless) to expand its street-cleaning services to the neighborhood. The contract will “bring their high-quality work to a high-traffic but filthy street,” according to a press statement from Marte’s office.
ACE currently works SoHo and parts of Chinatown.
It provides job training and employment opportunities to people experiencing homelessness and has a reputation of providing thorough and consistent street cleaning services.
“Sanitation is an integral part of quality of life,” Marte said. “A clean street makes people feel safer, it let’s people know that somebody is caring for their neighborhood. Lower East Siders deserve to have their streets.”
