The 7-Story Rebirth of Historic 282 Grand Street Finally Underway

In the four years since an historic row of Federal Houses was summarily demolished, the parcels comprising 282-286 Grand Street remained fallow. Over-tagged and left for dead.

Now, there is finally some noticeable activity to report. Namely the addition of plastic jersey barriers topped with fencework. The project site is ready for its luxury payload.

Until recently, the end-game at 282 Grand is a seven-story luxury project conceived and developed by owner and local oncologist-turned-gallerist, Marc Straus. He filed plans with Department of Buildings in 2018 to erect the residential building. Public records reveal that the housing stock is about twenty one-bedroom condo apartments and two penthouses.

Straus, who currently maintains a gallery showroom at 299 Grand Street, had previously partnered with the architectural firm Peterson Rich Office and Vito Enrico for the design, but the firm is no longer involved.
