‘Oonee’ Modular Bike Parking Pod Hit by a Car

You can’t make this up.

Just a few days after the Department of Transportation announced the arrival of a new bike parking “pod” outside the Essex Market, the so-called Ooneepod Mini was struck by a car and pushed onto the sidewalk.

The accident apparently happened Friday night when a driver allegedly made a “wide” turn onto Broome Street from Essex.

Shabazz Stuart, CEO of Ooneepod, provided updates on Twitter following the crash. “Just learned that the driver did not stay on the scene despite the damage caused to the mini and street furniture,” he reported.

“The damage is mostly cosmetic and not structural.”

The bikes parked inside were not damaged. This Ooneepod remains operational.

As previously reported, the futuristic pod is part of a pilot program that Department of Transportation is touring around the city this spring. It’ll remain on display here through the end of April.
