NYU Student Hit by Drunk Driver on East Houston Dies
A New York University student who was hit early Monday morning by a drunk driver on East Houston Street died of his injuries, police announced yesterday.
According to authorities, 21-year-old Raife Milligan, an Indiana native, was crossing East Houston at First Avenue/Allen at 2:45am, when he was struck by Queens resident Michael Deguzman, who was driving eastbound in his Chevrolet Camaro.
Deguzman, 49, then collided into a Honda CRV driven by a 52-year-old man. Deguzman, two of his passengers, and the other driver were all taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Milligan, however, was reportedly found lying on the street with head trauma, and rushed to Bellevue in critical condition. He died of his injuries on Tuesday. His family started a GoFundMe to help cover expenses.
Deguzman was charged with driving while intoxicated.
