Nestled amongst the eclectic grab-bag of Chinese restaurants, supply shops, and five-and-dimes, the upscale dessert spot didn’t quite fit the landscape from the outset.

Eldridge Street between Broome and Grand remains largely a Chinatown enclave. While there are more mainstream establishments like Vanessa’s Dumpling House or Fontana’s, this stretch of retail real estate is predominantly populated by Chinese-owned businesses.
