Already at its apex of seven stories, 2 Allen Street is now sporting some downtown definition beneath those garments of pinstriped netting and scaffolding.

In the three months since our last progress report, work on the underpinning job at the construction site of 2 Allen Street (aka 1-3 Orchard) has moved along steadily; backhoes dug deep below street level in an attempt to stabilize the adjacent Jarmulowski Bank Building. But now there’s a partial stop work order in place.

Behind a veil of dark netting, demolition of the four-story commercial loft at 2 Allen Street (aka 1-3 Orchard) is now officially underway. Brick by brick. The wrecking ball is returning to the eastern reaches of Chinatown. Over the weekend, we noticed that the entire corner plot of 2 Allen Street (aka 118-124 Division Street/1-3 Orchard Street) was surrounded by fresh plywood.
