Fisk Now Open at 77 Delancey

The small Swedish market alongside White Slab Palace, dubbed Fisk, is now open.  Upon entry, you are amidst a somewhat rustic setting, with all sorts of traditional treats available for purchase.  Shelves are stocked with cheeses, sodas, candies, cookies, and the like.

We now have a greater understanding as to why White Slab Palace hoisted a pair of Swedish flags at 77 Delancey in June.  The corner nightspot is actually opening a Swedish-themed market of sorts in their adjacent storefront space.

Hyper Island Replaces Real Deal at 74 Orchard Street

At 74 Orchard Street, the Real Deal NYC music studio is out and the Hyper Island school is in.  The tall, smokey-glass doors were open yesterday, so we stepped inside for more information.  As luck would have it, on the hottest day this year, their air conditioning unit was busted.

White Slab Palace Felled by Department of Health

Amoskeag XX Closes Up Shop at 96 Orchard

With the city economy stagnating, could high-end denim be reaching a breaking point in the neighborhood? Unlikely, but a $500 pair of jeans is still a tough sell these days. Just look at Amoskeag XX.  The sub-level boutique shop opened at 96 Orchard Street less than two years ago, and is now closed.

Flag Above Nathan Straus Playground

Mounted to the side of 176 Rivington Street, overlooking Nathan Straus Playground, is this rotting piece of artwork.  It portrays a blue Puerto Rican flag with an inscription in Spanish reading, “tell the drugs, no, and life, yes.”

The Wall at 85 Orchard Now Closed

In the fall of 2008, The Wall opened in the sliver real estate adjacent to An Choi at 85 Orchard Street.  Now a year-and-change later, the health-conscious restaurant is closed for good.  The area inside is has been cleared, with their assorted colorful cube-seating stacked against the wall.
