Breaking: Manhole Explosion Closes Section of East Broadway

A manhole outside the Knickerbocker Station post office on East Broadway reportedly burst a short time ago. Firefighters responded in kind and proceeded to close off the street between Pike and Rutgers. Meanwhile, the manhole itself is condoned off and still partially smoking. Transformer Explosion on East Broadway

Shortly after 5 pm, a pair manhole covers exploded on East Broadway near the Emigrant Savings Bank.  Several loud explosions were heard, and many residents from the perimeter buildings flooded the streets to see what was happening.
