As the seasons pass, the Lower East Side becomes ever more a concept for merchandisers. We’ve seen it all before, from perfume lines evoking the Bowery to J. Crew and their selection of Stanton Pants or Ludlow Suits. And now it’s time for Payless ShoeSource to get in on the action.

Bond No. 9 continues its streak of bottling up neighborhoods and landmarks throughout the city for its loathsome “Scents of New York” campaign. In the last couple months, we saw the arrival of the Cooper Square and High Line fragrances. But it was only a matter of time before the Bowery got the treatment.

Earlier this week, we commented on the new neighborhood-specific perfume by Bond No. 9 tailored for Cooper Square. Never to be outdone, Lady Gaga has also announced her intentions to jump into the scent scene, as it were.

Great, here we go again! That so-called scent of “urban renewal” is now encroaching upon the boundaries of the Lower East Side. Indeed, Bond No. 9 is on the proverbial quest to bottle up and package the city into a bevy of fancy fragrances – “The Scents of New York.”
